Are you going to be updating this story any time soon? It's too good to just leave unfinished.

"the children of Charles Adams are returning to England"
Wrong family, this is the Addams family.
I trust that Lupin, he who deserted Harry and never really cared for him in canon, has been informed about Bumbles and his nefarious plans for Harry?

I was just rereading this (and hoping for an update sometime ;) ), and I just recognized that bit with the the gazebo in the beginning of this chapter. Yeah! Another reader of Knights of the Dinner Table. :) Fireball's online, B.A.!

(After reading this chapter, but only the Disclaimer and notes at the top of the next one.)
There were people who missed the hint about he graveyard? I read the description and at once thought to myself "Little Hangleton? This should be interesting!"
I must say, I never thought I would be *enjoying* such an outre crossover: I fully expected to read a chapter, maybe two just be fair, and then wander off, but this is quite good. The blend of Classic and Modern Addams is lovely. Thank you for broadening my horizons and disturbing my prejudices.

Great chapter, I like how the Addams handled Dumbledore.

So the Family is actually a lot more help to the unfortunates than the great kind Dumbedore, who only helped selected individuals and then only half way. Of course given the eccentricity of the Addams people there are bound to be some weres of some kind within the Family.
Somehow, I was imagining Remus running under the full moon alongside some fierce wolf-bitch, but that’s all just my overtly romantic imagination.
I am the Deputy Headmistress and Professor Transfiguration.
Should that not be the Transfiguration Professor or the Professor for Transfiguration
Enchantments and Jinxes&Hexes.
Ok, enchantments maps to Charms, I suppose, but Jinxes and Hexes... is Salem merely subdividing the wanded magics more or are the children going to find Hogwards to have a more restrictive curriculum then they are used to?
Eh, this absentee landlord, he wouldn't be somewhere in Albania would he be? I that case I sure hope it is possible to ward his own property against a wizard.

"Well, with six different kinds of weres in the United States, we need specialists. And reserves so they can’t hurt anyone."Six different kinds of weres??? I trust we're going to learn more about that, eventually!
Grumbling at the idea of any more parental involvement at the school than there already was, Dumbledore continued perusing the list. "Immediate notification of parents and/or guardians in the case of emergencies involving any of the three children, or any incident involving medical care, permission to visit the school when children are in the infirmary …This brings up an interesting point. Many people are of the opinion that the parents of the petrified kids in CoS were never notified of the kids' condition, since none of them came rushing to Hogwarts to see their children and none of them refused to let them come back to such an obviously dangerous place. If this is true, then it's high time someone like the Addamses forced a few changes!

The big golem only knew a few words
Golem! That would explain Lurch! nobody ever really has, before.
"You seem very relaxed. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you smile like that. And that’s a very handsome suit. Is that … Remus Lupin, are you wearing an earring?"
"Wait till I get you home, young man!" ;-)
"I’m their tutor," Remus answered wryly. "They won’t love me when I give them their next pop quiz, I’ll tell you that."
Hee-hee! Good one!
"Well, with six different kinds of weres in the United States, we need specialists."
Six?? Hubba-whah? I hope we're going to here more about that! (And a reserve for werewolves sounds like a sensible and humane solution that the rest of the world should have adopted long since! (Makes me proud to be an American!)
"Oh, the usual," Mrs Addams said, counting on her fingers. "Enchantments, Transmogrification, Jinxes and Hexes. Brews. History. Herbalism. Then they’ve each taken electives, of course. Harry has Cryptozoology and Numerology. Pugsley has Numerology and Symbology. And Wednesday has Cryptozoology and Divination."
Hmm... I would like to know more. Of course, I would think that Trans-mog-rification would be right up Minerva's alley! (sorry, couldn't resist.)
"Aunt Morticia, I thought we had agreed I would be going to Hogwarts after all."
"Of course, dear. But they don’t know that. And as long as they’re not sure of it, they’ll give us almost anything we want to entice you to go. Once you’re there, we’ll have less influence, since there will probably be a contract which won’t allow us to pull you out."
"That’s beautiful," said Harry admiringly.
"Watch and learn, Harry. Watch and learn."
"... and we've already reserved your spot in Slytherin, my dear."
As for your presentation of Dumbledore, it seems clear that you're one of those who's lost a major amount of faith in the old guy over the last couple of books. I can understand where you're coming from, but I suspect you're exagerating the case a little. *pauses to repeat to self: "It's only a story. It's only a story..."*
Anyway, Great story, great chapter, and all around... it's all GRRRREAT!!!
Ishtar replied:
Yes, it explains Lurch to a tee. And Lurch's presence as a golem says some things about the Addams family as well. (I don't think he was made by an Addams; they probably took him in the way they took in Thing.)
The Americas have the advantage of having a lot of empty space to make reserves. Europe's a little more crowded. And just about every ethnic group has its own version of were-beasts, so I figured they brought them along when they came to the U.S.
The subjects at Salem are alternate versions (maybe a little twisted) of the Hogwarts curriculum. Numerology, for example, is the equivalent of Arithmancy. Symbology starts with Runes and goes on to ritual development. Transmogrification is a variant on Transfiguration (with the possibility of Animagus training as a class subject!)
And yes, given the last couple of books, I'm afraid I see two choices in interpreting Dumbledore's actions: either he's incompetent or he's manipulative (though not necessarily evil - being a control freak is bad enough). This Dumbledore is a bit of both, and it's necessary for story purposes to provide conflict. The Ministry doesn't play a large enough role in that regard to carry the story by itself.

Symbology - i'm sure the word your looking for is symbolisim !
Ishtar replied:
And I'm sure you're wrong. Look up "symbology."

To Jeremy DuCharne - Ishtar included Dr. MacIntyger as a tribute to a close friend of mine, who died of cancer in 2004. She often roll-played with me, her character being a cheetah-lycanthrope.
She's shown up in several other fics, and several web comics, including "Kevin & Kell", "Dela the Hoda", and "Black Tapestries", their authors generously donating the appearances in their strips to her memory, something for which I'm deeply grateful.

Just reread this part. The Lycanthrope specialist, Dr MacIntyger??? As in Dr. "Trapper" John MacIntyger of M*A*S*H?
Ishtar replied:
Trapper John's last name was MacIntyre. Dr. MacIntyger is a tribute to someone else, a friend of the person who gave me the idea for the Werewolf Reserve.

The gazebo with the crossbow bolts makes me wonder is Ishtar has been reading The Tale of Eric and the Dread Gazebo
Chuckle.
Ishtar replied:
Ishtar has been roleplaying long enough that she remembers when the "gazebo" incident was a brand-new story making the circuit. I have deleted the attachment link, by the way, because it dumped me into an endless ad loop attempting to install something on my computer.
