LOL They call it a "Ladder in the tights" because the run looks like a ladder as it goes up the tights. But you already knew that :-P

I feel like Petunia will return home a very changed woman.

This is one of the best stories out there. This is my 3rd or 4th time reading this. I hope you do more crossovers of Harry.

re AN...
Just one small britpick point... Stockings are the same here as in the US - as a general rule, they are upper-thigh length, and can be made of the same material as panty-hose, or of warmer materials, and can be kept up with garter belts. Tights are specifically panty-hose, comprised of legs and butt, and made of thin, translucent material....
Otherwise, wonderful story. Re-reading it for third or fourth time whilst i wait impatiently for the next chapter. Not sure if you're one of the founding members of ffa.net, but i have a question... As i understand it, this website is by invite-only, and i can, ofcourse appreciate that. The big question is, why on earth haven't Rorschach's Blot and Nonjon not been invited to post?!

Reading the first part of this chapter is making me think of the Dursleys as giant hobbits.

Wow, antique terminology. Makes me feel right at home. very good story, being read for the third or fourth time. Had to re-read it after Jeconais' story of the same name.

"Irish twins, we were so proud".

Yes, she's an Addams :-)

I have this feeling that I should bet on Petunia screaming before either Harry or Fester tonight, as the Addamses residence tends to be an Adventure even at day time...

I'm really enjoying this fic so far! It was a clever idea to have Petunia come from such an unusual family and be completely humiliated by them!

One little "nit" I have to pick. You seem to have made it clear that it's Morticia who is Petunia's cousin, not Gomez. Yet, you seem to have them related through the Addams line. I can't remember if the old TV show (or the movies, for that matter) ever said what Morticia's maiden name was, but I'm not aware of her being any kind of relative of Gomez' before she married him. (I could be wrong, of course.)

Many years ago, I heard of a study of TV shows which found that, underneath all the Goth stuff, the Addams Family actually gave one of the healthiest portrayals of family life on TV. The family were concerned about each other, always ready to help each other, the husband and wife were still passionately in love after some years of marriage and two children, family members fought sometimes, but always pached things up by the end of the episode... in short, Harry could do a lot worse that grow up with this bunch!

I look forward to reading more!

Oh, BTW - "Irish twins"? Huh?

Ishtar replied:

True, in the TV show, her maiden name was Frump, but I couldn't see a woman like that ever being a frump.   In the movies, Grandmama's name was Esmerelda Frump and was Morticia's mother, but I have returned Grandmama to being Gomez's mother as in the TV show, and retained the name Frump as her maiden name.   Movie!Morticia's name is given as "Morticia A. Addams".   I merely assume that the A. stands for Addams as her maiden name, and that she is a cousin of Gomez's - during the graveyard scene in the first movie, she certainly talked about the extended Addams clan as if they were her relatives as well as her husband's.   If her father and Gomez's father were cousins, that would make her and Gomez second cousins.  Marrying second or third cousins is perfectly legal, and in keeping with both Addams and Pure-blood wizarding traditions.   Thus Harry is more closely related to Morticia, but is also distantly related to Gomez, and of course is something like a third or fifth cousin to Wednesday and Pugsley depending on which side you count.   Call it a minor AU if you want.   Addams never made up relationships or names until he had to for the TV show, and then they were changed around for the movie.

"Irish twins" means two children born within a year of each other.   It's a nasty old-fashioned slur implying that the mother didn't wait a "decent" amount of time before becoming pregnant again.   Morticia, of course, turns it around and takes it as a badge of honor, a positive accomplishment - and having two healthy, beautiful children is indeed something for her to be proud of.

If you look at all versions of the Addams Family and look past the macabre aesthetic, you see a very functional, supportive extended family of the sort that is rarely seen today.  Harry could, indeed, do a lot worse.

The time frames for Wednesday and Pugsley are completly impossible for Pugsley To be two and Wednesday to be a few weeks older than harry cause harry's age is 1 year and three mioths which means Wednesday was born roughly two to four months after Pugsley. unless of course that is just the weirdness of the adams family

Ishtar replied:

Pugsley was born in September of 1979 (let's call it September 5).   Wednesday was born a couple of weeks after Harry, on  August 14,  1980,  eleven months and nine days  after Pugsley.   Yet because Hogwarts' cutoff date for attendance is September 1, they are all in the same year.   On December 22, 1981, when Harry came to the Addamses, Harry was seventeen months and three weeks old.   Wednesday was seventeen months and one week  old.     And Pugsley was twenty-seven months and two weeks  old, having turned two the previous September 5.   Pugsley and Hermione, who   both turn 12 in September of 1991, are among the oldest in their year, while Harry and Wednesday, who both turned 11 just before September of 1991, are among the youngest.

please don't tell me that you're going to stop just because the month is up.

I love this story too much for you to just stop.

Please keep going.

Ishtar replied:

Don't worry, I'm not stopping.   I did have to go away for the weekend, though.

Does this mean that Vernon's going to be very happy, when Petunia returns from dumping Harry? I'm honestly surprised that Petunia is related to the Addams family. I would never have pegged her for that.

Of course I have always figured that Morticia was a witch. I love the Adams family show and movies. This will be fun. It will be even more fun to see how Petunia reacts to the Adams family in the daylight!

Thanks for writing. pms

You realize that expectations are high if you are throwing the Addams Family into the Potterverse...Hope you have carefully gone over the NYer cartoons and not based this solely on the TV show.

Ishtar replied:

I've been a fan of the Addams Family for almost 40 years now - cartoon, show and movie.   I was one of the ones screaming with ghoulish delight when the opening scene for the film was the dumping of boiling oil on the Christmas carolers.   I just managed to acquire the complete NYer cartoon collection and will be going over ALL the cartoons carefully.   (The influence of the show is the only thing that will keep the body count down, I think ...)

Oh wonderful, a new story. It's a fantastic start. I love the Addams family, especially Wednesday (we never really get to see much character development in Pugsley), and I'm ever so much looking forward to seeing how you develop the trio along with the rest of the Addams family relations.

Plus, I've been checking your HP stories periodically, and Fidelius was last updated in May, so I'm terribly excited to see you writing anything in the HP-verse. I hope your highly motivated and keep writing and writing on this story, so I can read it.

*grin*

Thank you for writing!

Very intriguing start, especially with such a unique crossover......Harry as an Addams, haha, I can't even imagine how he'll turn out with Wednesday and Pugsly as siblings. Looking forward to more.

This is going to be such a fun story to read, I am looking forward to reading the rest of the story. I am sure that the two genre's will fit together exceedingly well.

At least Harry will have a loving, if a little strange, family.

I have been an Addams family fan for a long time. Through the entire TV series. Especially when I found out that my mother went to High School with Lurch (Ted Cassidy).

Please continue the good work.
