What is up with Harry's mode of dress or why s he dressed that way?I must say that when I was yunger and the reruns of the Addams' Family show where on I had a crush on Wednesday.

Ishtar replied:

A. He likes it.   B.   Gomez mixes and matches colors (see the movie) and he's emulating his father figure's style.   C.   Gomez and Morticia believe in letting children make their own decisions about things that don't really matter.   What's important is that he wears a sweater on cold days, not what color it is.   If he cares about what others think, he'll switch.   If he doesn't care, he will continue wearing what he feels like wearing.

Ishtar replied:

Pugsley and Hermione, maybe.

I had to froward the entire 1st section to the school board of the charter school my girls attend, as an example of the way I think teaching should be.
Thanks for the excellent and cogent writing - a fabulous chapter in a great story - so far olny fidelius has been as gripping to me.
warm regards

Wow.   That's a compliment and a half!   Thank you!

I didn't have the benefit of the huge family library and woods in the back yard, but that's pretty much the way my parents let me learn.   Especially the "getting two chapters if we were good" thing.   I was reading on a third grade level when I was four, and the only ones that ever tried to stop me reading anything (paradoxically) were my school library teachers, who had one set of shelves set aside for first-graders, and we were to read only from those shelves.   Never mind that I was already well beyond it.   Second grade liberated me to have at the rest of the library, and I was so relieved!   (I remain convinced that the best way for me to have gotten through school would have been for someone to point me at the library and said, "GO!".   Then when I'd finished that, I'd move on to the middle school library, and so on.)

Aw poor Dumbles, stick it to him again :)

Excellent chapter, love the idea of the training wands and not limiting what a child can read.

I love this story. I can't wait for Hogwarts...with Snape most likely picking on Wednesday and Harry getting his revenge Addams Family Style.

Ishtar, what I have I told about skipping medication like this? "Son of a Bitch Stew"??!!? You had me laughing, nigh on crying, for nearly five solid minutes.

Quite frankly, I'm curious to see what talents the Addams blood will confer on Petunia (or Dudders for that matter, since as child of Petunia, he is of the Addams line). Morticia's sentiments at the end of Chapter 3 are very good, and I might just apply some of that reasoning to a family of my own.

I recognised the two-headed suckling pig, throwing knives as darts as old Addams drawings. I used to have a collection of Charles Addams cartoons (both of the Family and non-Addams-but-similarly-twisted variety). To my regret, it has gone AWOL.

Keep writing, I'll keep reviewing.

im sory about a second review but i forgot to mention i had this wonderful image of thing going to hogwarts as harry's "familiar" and think of the meyhem it would cause.
in the movies and shows thing loves to joke and i would love to see peeve's reaction to a disembodied hand.
and i can just see fudge now
"wha...what is that thing!?! i knew it potter, your evil, practiceing necromancy in hogwarts, and dumbledore is allowing it!! ill have you expelled for this!!"

i just started reading this story this chapter and so far im absolutley loveing it.
i really would find an eventual harry/wednesday pairing to be rather interesting as the only gothic harry i have read so far is punk/goth and not really adams/goth if you get my meaning. and i would be terribly interested to read adams/goth harry. PLEASE dont abandon this and PLEASE update soon. i work 12 hour shifts and i spent most of my shift today thinking about your story "at least 10 hours" and im really looking foward to this.

Cool! do you give update alerts?

Ishtar replied:

Yes, you can sign up for update alerts.   I'll be putting up a new chapter today, probably in the afternoon.

Bravo Ishtar, I have always had a soft spot for the Addams and your juxtaposition of the two worlds is like a good Cajun Japanese restaurant, odd, spicy and thoroughly satisfying.

Sweet! I can't wait to see the rest of this. I absolutely adore how they basically give Dumbledore the run around without letting him in on any of their secrets. Most of which of course they probably don't even realize should be secrets, being the Addams they are ;)

Nice chapter :) Can't wait for the kids to have a bigger role in this :D

Hogwarts won't know what hit it.

Great work, and keep it coming :)

Wow, by far one of the most...original...HP fanfic stories I've ever read. However, i must say it is indeed a pleasure to read so far, and eagerly look forward to more.

Keep up the great work.

Anything Addams Family is morbidly charming. I have really enjoyed this story so far. Keep up the good work.

Loved this chapter. I could visualize the action very clearly.

An excellent start to a great crossover. I look forward to future chapters. I loveed your excellent characterization of Gomez and am especially interested in seeing how you'll eventually handle an older Harry's characterization. Showing how being raised by the Addams family has changed him as an individual while simultaneously keeping him similar enough to Canon-Harry that readers can identify with him will be quite a challenge. I suggest keeping him in Gryphendor as the familiar presence of Ron, Hermoine, etc. will act to both strengthen the similarities while highlighting the differences (I also can't wait to see how the sorting hat reacts to this version of Harry - somebody as brave and determined as a Gryphendor, as loyal as a Hufflepuff, and with a mind that would give nightmares to a Slytherin).

I'm quite liking this, and may try to do some research on Tarot cards to see if I can figure some of the plot. Any hints as to what sort of tarot cards they were?

I liked Petunia's reaction to Harry. You try almost to show her reasoning for putting Harry in the cupboard under the stairs, as abhorrent as that is you make her self justification believable. Or that its at least believable from her perspective.

I look forward to more.

Hi I love the story but one thing that bothers me... for Harry to be an Addams shouldn't he have to be blood related to Gomez? 'Cause when a woman marries she usually takes her husbands name, and Wikipedia Introduces Morticia as Morticia A. Addams (née Frump), therefore Petunia's mother, to be Morticia's cousin, has to have been related to the Frumps not the Addams. Right? Or do I just think to much?

Ishtar replied:

Consider it AU.   I couldn't see a woman like Morticia ever being a Frump, so I decided that her maiden name is Addams, and she's a distant cousin of Gomez.   Lily/Petunia are more closely related to Morticia than they are to Gomez.   So Wednesday is something like Harry's third/fifth cousin depending on which side you're counting on.   I read "Morticia A. Addams" to be "Morticia Addams Addams", as she uses her maiden name as her middle initial (also a common custom).   There are other things I had to reconcile between cartoons, movies, and the TV show, so if you see anything else that looks odd, just write it off as me messing with it.   The show, for example, has Grandmama as Gomez's mother and Fester as Morticia's Uncle, whereas in the movie they're Morticia's mother and Gomez's brother, respectively.   I'm taking some of each, with Grandmama as Gomez's mother and Fester as his brother.   Morticia's family may show up later, and there are plenty of other relatives that will come out of my fevered imagination.
