Is Snape going to turn out to be another lost cousin? That would throw a spanner in the works.

Ishtar replied:

No.   Snape is not related to the Addams Family.

Ahhh! this story is wonderfully hilarious! i love the way you right petunia, with her just straddling the line betweeen being utterly despicable and almost sympathetic. i can't wait to see what harry's like in your universe.

DD really was outmaneuvered before he set foot on
the property. You have to love the Adams.

I do believe Dumbledor was bested this round, and rather soundly. I'm looking forward to Round 2 :p I loved the way you fleshed out Mrs. Figg; she came across as very skilled agent of Dumbledor. I also loved the little bits about how Harry is doing. It seems his adventurous side is already starting to show, as well as his natural leadership judging by the way Pugsley and Wednesday seem to follow him.

The scene of the kids barging into the room, shrieking (one in fear, two in delight), then running out was just damn cute. You certainly have a deft touch when it comes to depicting child characters.

I can't wait until we get to see more of Harry's life with his new family!

Oh, nice :) I do hope this isn't the last we see of Dumbledore; Morticia deals with him so well.

I really like this story! I used to watch The Addams Family on TV back in the 1960's, and I always enjoyed them! What an interesting twist on all the Harry Potter stories out there.

I love stories in which people stand up to Albus Dumbledore, and I'm looking forward to reading future chapters. Great job!

Very nice and unique story. I like that the Addams family is not just plain weird but caring and noble. Also Petunia is both repulsed and attracted to them.

I dont think this counts a double post, cause its a different topic...
I was reading some of the reviews, and it seems like everybody hates Dumbledore. Doesn't anyone remember "I'm Dumbledore's man.." from Book 6? Yes I realize book 6 was a departure from the rest of the series, but still. Harry seemed to have gotten over getting "manipulated". I just don't get why people have such a hatred for DD, especially when his character and wit are just so awesome.

Ishtar replied:

I don't care if you double post, if you have something you want to say, say it.

As you say, Book 6 is a departure.   The very thing you quote - "I'm Dumbledore's man" - is one of the biggest departures, since it doesn't follow from the distrust and anger of just a few months before.   (I think Harry used "I'm Dumbledore's man" as an excuse to get rid of the Minister - he definitely does not want to be the "Minister's man.")

Based on Dumbledore's actions (or lack of same) in the first five books, I think he is either a) manipulating Harry or b) completely incompetent.   Since I don't believe he's incompetent, the question is why he is manipulating Harry.

In this story, he's not doing it for any malevolent purposes.   I'm starting with the Dumbledore from Book 1, serene in the belief that he is doing the best thing for everybody.   He thinks it's best for Harry to go to the Dursleys, so he instructs Hagrid to keep him away from Sirius - with the result that Sirius goes after Pettigrew.   He seems to think that the Dursleys will take Harry in happily and just leaves him there for ten years - or would have, without Morticia's intervention.   He honestly thinks that he knows best, and "best" is having Harry in England so that he will develop fondness for the British wizarding community and be willing to fight for them.   If Harry thinks of himself as an American with loyalty to an American family, he's less likely to go fight Voldemort.   So DD has to get Harry back to the safe haven (the Dursleys - ha!) that DD chose for him, unaware that his actions have been foreseen (he's the Hierophant from Morticia's tarot spread in Chapter 1) and that actions will be taken to resist him.

I don't hate DD, but I do think that he is a deeply flawed human being, and though he means well, his flaws are as destructive, in the long run, as Fudge's.

The Latin seems to be missing a few words, but that's fairly common. "subjectatus" seems to in the wrong case and/or number, but perhaps the trannslators took a little liberty.
I'm really really liking this story so far... it has been a while since ive seen any of the movies tho. With this chapter tho, it seemed as if Dumbledore should have had a more magic minded thought process, at least at the beginning. For example, he thought to himself that if the gate could have giggled, it would have. Well, in his normal sphere, it would not be all that uncommon for the gate to recite shakespeare, or sing songs, etc.
Also, it just kinda sat oddly that the Addamses didnt seem to recognize Dumbledore, especially since they seem so tied to the magical world and Dumbledores level of fame, if i remember correctly, they did know that Harry was the Boy who Lived... Unless of course, they DID recognize Dumbledore, and were playing dumb to get DD to leave. By the same token, the Addams's house seems really close to Grimmauld Place, so DD shouldnt be surprised by anything in it.
Over all, I love this story, and hope you continue with your rapid fire chapter updates!

*sigh* Self-deceptive idiot. Okay, fine, always looking for the best in people. Doesn't excuse his blindness, though. (I'm a wee bit bitter toward AD, can you tell?)

1-0 Addams

Fun stuff

i am truly enjoying this fic and just had to watch the movie again just so i could get a feel for the decor and everything else. great work.

Ishtar replied:

I did that myself.   Gave me all sorts of ideas for things to steal be inspired by for the fic.

Nice fic so far :-)
I particularly like the addams bit, even though i don't know them, qnd the poor dumbledore isn't evil, at least not yet.
Great work.

Ishtar replied:

He's not evil, just misguided, arrogant and overconfident.

Dorothy;

loving this NaNoWriMo challenge fic. It's so interesting. I look forward to learning more about Harry's interesting childhood with the Addams. :-)

Great job on putting Dumbledore in his place - "As you arranged? Why did you have any say in Harry's placement?" asked Gomez, his eyes glittering. "Are you the executor of his parents' wills? Are you his trustee or guardian?"

"I told you, I am the Headmaster at Hogwarts School."

"A position with no official status, sir. At least none of which I am aware. Certainly not the authority to place an orphaned child."

I have often wished for someone to put this to his face and see the result. It is much as I had thought - he has *no* available response.

cheers,

Cassie

Wonderful. I love Gomez' responses to Dumbledore.

"an unfortunate incident last Christmas with a department store Santa. You know the sort of thing" LOL funny. Does sound like the children are doing well. Has Harry picked up any pet snakes yet? In the Addams house I can see him having a pet cobra.

Thank you for writing this. I have a smile plastered on my face. This is great.

Well, we all know that dumbledore doesn't give up on his foolishness easily, so I presume he'll be back in New Jersey during the next chapter.

Coming along nicely, keep it up.

Now, about this:
"Gomez is thinking about buying a large dog to keep watch over them. Between you and me, it had best be a very large dog."

Hmm. Know any large dogs? Foreshadowing? I'm not sure if it would be a good idea for Sirius to show up there.

I like the mysterious touch of Albus not really understanding the magic that seems to surround the Addams' and their house. Will make for some interest later on, as the poor man tries to understand who Harry has become.

I just love to see that interfering, meddlesome, controlling S.O.B. get stymied. The Addams Family are just the people to do it in grand style. Keep up the great work and, as always, please, update soon.

If you are interested in seeing get dumbledore get his ass kicked, then you should look for the fanfic: sunrise over britain OR sunset over britain.
er that is a very interesting fanfic and quit worth reading.
