bloody wicked. Except that I would've expected Lily and James to include something in case Peter died.

Whoa, the Fidelius is going to hold even after he's dead? Wacky, Dorothy!
I'm loving the new futures for SB, RL and SS. Are the Longbottoms in St. Mungo's, or did they recover?
You're doing great - keep on keeping on!

Damn... That was powerful. I wonder how everyone is going to react when they first see him. Will they be surprised? Angry? Miurnful? Curious? I dunno, but I can't wait to find out.

Very nice. I assume the house elvs were affected because of the 'all who belong here' phrase but why can't they be seen at all when they leave?
The description of the house elvs adjusting to fit Harry Potter was nice although I believe a bit exesive. Also, you described Harry learning to do a bit of house elf magic but what of accidental magic? Didn't he ever do magic which produced results other then what he intended?
I'm Guessing Peter will arrive next chapter to teach Harry Magic, right?

"House elf," sniffled Harry. Nanny rolled her eyes skyward.
*laugh* Oh, this is gonna be fun . . . Can't wait until Harry sees the Hogswart elves. And Dobby. *vbg*
Interesting look at the politics of the DMLE, at least from Sirius's POV.
Oh, please, PLEASE don't tell me that Remus will end up with any penname that has the initials of JKR.
Hmm. Never thought about the history of Dark Lords elsewhere.
SNAPE?! Ishtar, I don't know if I'll forgive you for that one . . .
"they buried it in a numbered grave in Potter's Field."
How utterly ironic.
Oh, ghost Peter? Hmm. That has possibilities, doesn't it? Hey, he could find Harry . . .
(Yes, I vaguely remember you saying something about it before, but didn't remember it until after finishing the chapter.)
Great chapter. Looking forward to the next one.

Wow, that ending was pretty cool :)
And I think the House Elves having to act like 'Big Peoples' because they want Harry to act like a wizard was hilarious.

A fascinating consequence of the Fidelius at the end there. I wonder how Peter will deal with it? Of course the mere fact that he is a ghost at this point opens up numerous possibilities in regards to him. It was really interesting to see Harry getting raised by house elfs, I imagine that some of their tricks he's learned, while things he won't want to replicate on a regular basis, should prove handy in a really tight spot. How everybodies lives proceeded from these little differences is highly fascinating, and I'm extremely curious to see this version of Severus interact with Harry when the time comes. Outstanding work, thank you.

Wow, What an incredible chapter. I should've gone to bed nearly two hours ago, but I just HAD to read this chapter! :) hehehehe. (I'm so tired, so I had to read it very, very carefully.) Awesome, really awesome. I loved how you tuned in to different viewpoints on how everyone is doing. Snape the Hero, hmmm? :) Intriguing. And Peter's a ghost now, yes? Well let's hope he does the right thing and goes home; it seems he will. I wonder if he will realize that the thin cord is the Fidelius and he's still guarding Harry. Harry's being raised by the house elves, hmmm? :) Interesting. I've always liked stories where the elves raise him. O:-) I like how Nanny keeps dealing with the situations that Harry causes by wanting to do house elf things. Yay for Remus writing a book! :) Perhaps he'll be self-sufficient, yes? That'd be cool. I LIKE how they got rid of Mrs. Black's portrait!! hehehehe. Yay for the chainsaw! Sirius an Unspeakable, hmmm? in-ter-es-ting... I can't wait for more, to see how the next few years go... but of course I will ;) hahaha, I'm not the one writing, and I'm not going to bug you to hurry up. So take what time you need, but know that I'm really looking forward to your next installment!

Ohh, so awesome, I've been waiting for this story to update just so I can see how Harry adjusts to being raised by house elves. I really enjoy your mulitple points of views, giving a glimpse of what everybody else was doing while Harry was revolutionalizing house elf culture, heh.

I wasn't going to read this story (I don't like fic's set in the Marauders time), but I'm glad I did: it is bloody brilliant. The characterisation is excellent, the plot inspired and the writing is amongst the most engaging I've read anywhere
Thanks!

Brilliant, as ever. Your characterisation is probably the best I've seen so far in a fanfiction. Originality is a big plus too. I liked Snape becoming famous, Peter as a ghost and Remus as a writter. It's all in-character and explained perfectly.
Some question about Fidelus that you probably should explain further:
If the house elves can take groceries and leave money, why can't they leave a message to Sirius & Remus? Or if they didn't know how to write, why they don't do it now, when they have learned?
And why are elves and Harry invisible, anyway? None of the order members were invisible and they were spending a lot of time in Grimmauld Place (in OOTP).
I guess you could say there are two conflicting descriptions of fidelus, one in POA and one in OOTP. Maybe I'm just more partial to the one in OOTP... But some further description wouldn't hurt.
Anyway, keep going, great work.

And now, as a ghost, Peter will maybe be allowed some atonement?

Wow. Just wow. Kinsfire's writing always comes across to me as visceral, emotional, perhaps even primal - it's not polished, it aims to hit your heart more than your head. Yours is far more polished & professional in my opinion, you go through the head to get to the heart, but you both give me great joy when reading your stories.
I'm usually -very- picky when reading fanfic - I have my ship (H/Hr), and my kinks (H/harem), and I usually do not read stories that are heavily entrenched in other ships (or that do not list a ship, like this one)... and right now I could care less about ships - this is just a damn good story.
I've always wanted to read a GOOD Harry-raised-by-elves fic, after seeing some of the tripe on FFN, and so far you've delved deeper into the idea than I had ever imagined or expected an author to aim for. It feels -complete-, rather than a mere plot device. In a way, just by being alive, Harry has instigated Hermione's SPEW campaign! I'm not sure where you going with the story and will certainly enjoy the ride, but I do hope you take this through to a definite completion. (I was going to say the Hogwarts years, and I would love to see that, but that would take a LONG time to write. : )
I am absolutely loving this story - the plot has depth, the characters are in-character and yet so much more than mere canon has made them. I absolutely can't wait for the next chapter.
Thank you!
I'd offer to bear your children, but I think we're both the wrong gender for that. hehe

Beautiful chapter. I like how you spend time touching on each major character, on how they survive or not survive the next few years after that very fateful night.
Harry's childhood was fun to read, especially when he cause a revolution regarding the ways his house elves act around him. I would think that Dobby would be most happy to sreve such a master, though, he probably wouldn't be the best elf for Harry.
It's unfortunate for Sirius how the case with Lockhart have gone, and kept thinking that perhaps Albus would offer him the posdt of DADA professor or something else after he quit from the Ministry. Was surprise though, to read that he was offered a place in the dept of mysteries, but what could interest him there?
Damn that Lockhart, guess he would be back terrorise poor Harry later then, to charm his way through gullible women and young girls? I do hope that he will receive a more fitting punishment than what happen in canon though.
Heehee... loved the way that werewolf thinks, nifty knowledge he have, regarding tools and demolitions. Good thing for Remus, hopefully things will be better from now on for him, already I can see that he will be making a name for himself, at least in the muggle world *hopefully* Those muggle certificates are really godsend for him, the last of what the marauders did for one of their own.
Nice little idea you have there regarding Snape's greasy head. Hahaha.. he even knew of what people were calling him behind his back. Guess he must have really thick skin, that he was able to withstand all the name calling and what not.
Nice portrayal of Peter, a man who have fallen so far, not by choice. And no matter where he run to, he will always be haunted by the images of those he have betrayed. I kind of find myself pity this rat, of how he was lead down this path of no return, and now, he cannot even move no, not until the fidelius charm is lifted, and the Potters freed from their imprisonment. Though I have to wonder, if James and Lily were there to welcome him into the next adventure, or to admolish him for the betrayals.
Just a couple of thoughts though, if the fidelius is so powerful and cause others not to be about to see the Potters, it would really be dangereous if the charm fell on evil doers hands. Imagine some DE under similar spell, he would be invisible to all, till the secret is reveal, and he would be a most valuble assasin, since he is still able to interact with other, but no one can see him. *shudders* Another would be there how is Harry going to attend Hogwarts, or buy his wand? He would practically be an invisible boy, at least until Peter return to the British isles and the charm is lifted.

Really awesome storytelling Dorothy. I really like the way your characters are growing here. It looks like you're about up to Harry's first year at Hogwarts judging by Peter's tale. The spell has bound him to an earthly existence, but can he impart the secret to others and break the spell? Eagerly looking forward to the next installment.
dogfoot75 posted a comment on Monday 28th November 2005 3:01pm
So if he had died, would it have broken? Peter's the only one who can break the spell, so if he's a ghost... and how can Harry even receive his Hogwarts letter if he's under Fidelius?
Hmm. This is a really, really interesting take on HP, and I'm hoping that you finish it even after December 1st. Course I'm also waiting for JYA.
